Our football coach, Harry Ross, is the Academy Physical Development Coach at West Ham FC. We pride ourselves in working with incredible talent across all sports and disciplines, and a conversation with Harry is much like the conversations with all our coaches. He’s full of passion, a desire to always learn and improve, a dedication to deliver outstanding work and help the people he coaches and works with. It’s a pleasure to hear our coaches talk about their specialist subjects in detail and share their learnings and experience. This is also why it’s such a pleasure to bring you their training programs because we know the quality of the work.
Strength Training for Football
Together with Harry we have created ‘Game Strength’ – a 12-week training program designed to help you become a stronger, faster and more effective football player. The program focuses on the strength requirements of football to not only be stronger and faster but also to translate this strength into your ability to affect the game. Because as Harry says when coaching – ‘Do they affect the game? And if not why?’
Dynamic Correspondence
As I discussed in another recent blog post the theory of Dynamic Correspondence is the foundation of strength and conditioning for sport. Harry’s program is no different and is built around movements we see in the game and programs these movement in exactly the right way to be effective. Every element of the program has a rationale, nothing is in the program without good reason, even the warm ups are athletic development opportunities and have been structured accordingly – we’re sure you will enjoy.
